Frost, freak snowstorms keeping orchardists busy

Washington, USA
Cherry farmers haven't been sleeping while erratic cold weather over the past 10 days has caused damage to the orchards. They're busy fighting below-freezing temperatures and impromptu spring snowstorms to save every bud on every cherry tree branch. Orchards in the lower elevations and on southern slope likely saw more damage than others and orchard perimeters are at higher risk. "I've haven't been doing this long - only 41 years - but I don't think I've seen a March that has been this cold, this long."
