What Happened to the Aussie Summer?

It is as though Summer never existed, across much of eastern Australia. It really was a season of discontent for anyone looking forward to balmy days and nights and to the enjoyment of outdoor activities, for the weather pattern was more barmy than balmy. Temperatures for the most part remained well below normal both day and night and the thermometer only topped the 30 degree mark nine times during the three months. This is compared with 16 days the previous Summer. There were pluses with the unseasonal weather — no bushfires worthy of mention and no sweltering nights. It has all been strange times indeed as highlighted by the Weather Bureau report this week that the East Coast has had its COOLEST SUMMER IN MORE THAN HALF A CENTURY.
